In the poorest regions of the world, girls face unique barriers to survival and development, simply because they are girls. Yet they are the key to breaking the cycle of poverty for everyone. Plan International's Because I am a Girl initiative is a social movement to unleash the power of girls and women to claim a brighter future for girls in the developing world.
In the poorest regions of the world, girls face unique barriers to survival and development, simply because they are girls. Yet they are the key to breaking the cycle of poverty for everyone. - For every extra year a girl stays in school, her income can increase by 10 to 20% - A girl in the developing world receiving 7 years of education marries 4 years later on average and has fewer, yet healthier, children -If all women completed primary education, there would be 66% fewer maternal death
Plan International's Because I am a Girl initiative works with communities around to address the barrier preventing girls from receiving the education they deserve: 1. Provide equal access to education 2. Educate boys and men about gender equality 3. Keep schools safe for girls 4. Provide school feeding programs that that keep girls' stomachs full and their brains active 5. Give girls financial standing, independence and income 6. Challenge gender roles and stereotypes
Supporting girls' education is one of the single best investments we can make to help end poverty. It will save lives. It will transform futures. It will unleash the incredible potential of girls and their communities.
