Aussie X International Outreach project will travel to Nairobi, Kenya in June 2012. Aussie X will provide a life changing sports program and facilitate healthy living capacity building workshops in schools in the developing region of Kibera, Nairobi. Aussie X's aim is to improve the health and well-being of children and youth living in some of the world's worst slum neighbourhoods.
Nairobi, Kenya is home to many of the world's worst slums. In such situation, it is the marginalized of society who suffer first and most, the children. Many of these areas lack access to physical education programs and basic information regarding healthy living habits.
We will fund the delivery of our Aussie X - Australian Rules Football program combined with our Aussie X Healthy Living program to elementary schools in Nairobi. These programs foster critical life skills such as teamwork, self-confidence and healthy habits through a unique sporting experience. The program trains teachers and community leaders to continue the sporting program after Aussie X departs.
Our program will teach youth the importance of healthy habits that will help them in their lives and improve the health of the overall community. Starting with schools as the community hub our programs teach children through a capacity building model which allows them to feel empowered and inspired to pursue their dreams. Teachers and leaders in the community are trained and given on-going support to allow them continue facilitating programs to ensure sustainable lasting impact.
