Through a cross section of art & social justice, the Hip-Hop 2 Hollywood Film Bootcamp will inspire & empower youth to find their voice, their vision. The mission of H2H is to end youth apathy.
Thousands of inner-city youth, due to drastic budget cuts, are being left with nothing to do and no place to go between the hours of 3-5pm which studies show is the crucial time period where youth, given no alternative, are prone to get involved with drugs, sex, and violence. Our Hip-Hop 2 Hollywood Program is addressing this issue by offering youth an artistic alternative to voice their thoughts, ideas, and solutions on various social justice issues affecting their communities.
Hip-Hop 2 Hollywood participants will write, direct, and edit a short film on a social-justice issue impacting their community. After being showcased at their schools, the top 5 from each school will then be selected to be screened in public festival
Our project will offer opportunities for 100 kids, age 13-19, throughout the school year to actively engage in youth activism, social-justice, and leadership skills by expressing their views and solutions through the creative process of film & music.
I learned how to act, direct, open a tripod and most importantly, more about homeless people than I ever would have. I definitely won't look at a homeless person the same way again.
