Looking back at 2009, Amnicon gives thanks for its donors

In 2009 Amnicon and its supporters were able to see that a campership doesn’t just pay for a camper’s experience at camp, it goes much farther than that. Camperships provide opportunities for under-funded programs, enabling Amnicon to work with “at risk” youth and provide positive programs. The lives of the youth as well as the quality of the programs that share in an Amnicon experience are both enriched. Beginning this New Year, we wish to give abundant thanks to the many folks who made the total of $22,490.00 raised in camperships this past year possible. In our thanks, please share in a prayer given by one of the campers from an at-risk group this summer during the first night’s campfire on the Lake Superior beach:

“Dear God, Thank you for the gift of this beautiful Amnicon beach. Thank you for the sand and the ants and the connections you’ve made between us all. Thank you for all of these reminders that we are one in you. Amen.”

Inner-city, foster-agency, reservation, and social service programs are realizing more than ever that an Amnicon trip provides nourishment in areas where their youth are deeply hungry. This past year Amnicon received more requests than ever for scholarships for these youth to attend camp. In a culture desperately disconnected from the natural world and deeply searching for spiritual truths, these experiences are as important as ever, perhaps more than ever. Creating a space where a young person can truly delve into the mysteries of God’s creation, be encouraged to step outside of their box, where the reality of our interconnectedness stirs us toward more compassionate acts, all of this takes the committed and ongoing support of donors like you! We will need to work hard in 2010 to continue this fabulous outreach ministry. For now, please rest assured in our thankfulness for your generous ongoing support and keep your eyes posted for the next time Global Giving and Amnicon will team up for a matching funds campaign. Meanwhile, you are always welcome to call Amnicon with any questions or to add your wisdom to this process. 715-364-2602.
