People cannot fix a problem they are not aware of. The Angel Acres anti horse slaughter awareness billboard campaign is spreading the word across the country that American horses are being shipped to Mexico and Canada to be brutally slaughtered for human consumption. With a neat, clean, factual companion website we are educating the public, changing minds about horse slaughter (it is NOT humane euthanasia) and saving lives.
100,000 American horses are sent Mexico and Canada to be brutally slaughtered each year for human consumption. Many of these horses are healthy, sound and have simply outgrown the reason for which they were bred. They could have new careers and second shot at life if horse slaughter were finally made illegal in the USA and our borders were closed to these foreign slaughter houses. Horse slaughter is NOT illegal in America and it is NOT humane euthanasia.
The project makes people aware of the problem of horse slaughter. The billboard slogan matches the educational, non-graphic, companion website's url. New people are finding us each day by viewing the billboard and going directly to the site or by searching the billboards phrase "Stop Slaughtering Us". ONLY when the citizens of the United States are aware of what is happening to our American icon will change occur.
The long-term effects of this campaign are numerous. If we can expand the campaign to more states, more people will be aware, and will be moved to take action.
I am a full time volunteer and truly believe this project will be the catalyst to end the horrific suffering that all slaughter bound horses face.
