This project will build an Animal Education Center to assist the United SPCA in teaching youth, adults, law enforcement, animal owners, and those charged with animal crimes in proper care of animals to reduce animal neglect and abuse now and into the future. This will provide for a covered exercise area to support rehabilitation of the animals in our care, and enable us hands on classes in appropriate animal handling, and provide hay storage.
Currently thousands of animals are surviving without appropriate care and are being neglected, abandoned and abused. Horses are just left to die, over 17,000,000 dogs and cats are euthanized every year due to over population and owner abandonment in shelters. We are building this center to provide for animal welfare education, hands-on clinics in animal care and handling, and animal rehabilitation. This center will be available to the general public, i.e.:youth groups, schools, law enforcement
This Animal Welfare Education Center will be the first of its kind in Oregon. It will open the doors of education in how to care for animals appropriately. It will provide a covered area enabling hands-on animal rehabilitation year-round for a multitude of animals, education to owners, and law enforcement. It will also provide for those convicted of animal crimes court mandated education in how to properly care for animals. By making these services available, animal abuse will be reduced.
This center will save thousands of animals from abuse and neglect by providing a central location to learn about animal care as we are open to the public always. We will be able to educate those charged with animal neglect how to appropriately care for their animals through court mandated training classes being held at the education center. We will impact how animals are cared for beginning with youth; the effect the center will have is generational saving thousands of animals over time.
