American Smokeout & National Rural Health Walk

It will take place on the third Thursday in November Nov 15th. It will be the 37th annual Great American Smoke Out (which is sponsored by the American Cancer Society) and it will be the 2nd annual National Rural Health Day. is hosting a walk to bring both parties together leaving Cayuga Community College and arriving on the steps of City Hall!

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Trying to raise awareness against tobacco use and getting children and adults out and active in the commuity to promote healthy activities for families.

How will this project solve this problem?

This event may not solve the problem overall but we are taking a stand against smoking in our community and to celebrate the support of rural health. Our journey starts at a community college and ends on teh steps of City Hall where local and nation politicians will be speaking. Members of the American Cancer Society and National Rural Health will be available as well. This march takes a stand for the health of our future generations.

Potential Long Term Impact

Last year less than 30 people gathered on this day. This funding and increased awareness will bring hundreds and maybe thousands to do this and take a stand for the health of our state. The hope is that other communities will see this and this will start a chain reaction across the state, and then across our country. This will work 100%
