Promote Sustainable Agriculture in El Salvador

La Coordinadora is deeply rooted in democracy and representation. All members participate directly in project designs and implementation. This is a commnunity meeting, in San Hilario, where representatives and leaders from the community have come together to discuss their recent progress with agriculture planning. Also being discussed is a new three year strategic plan, which will focus on environmental management and creating new economic llivelyhood alternatives.

As part of the sustainable agriculture program, an 'agriculture school' takes place among varias communities to disseminate information about organic practicies, share strategies for cultivation, and talk about best practices to discourage use of chemicals and non-native seeds, while maintaining strong harvests. During our July planning visit, the student leadership team sat in on a session and learned many new (to us!) innovative ways to grow crops, manage for pests, and bolster harvests.
