Summary
Provide after school programs and weekend activities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & questioning youth in South Florida. Support groups, life skills coaching & referrals to mental health.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
South Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgered youth face multiple challenges. They are at high risk for alcohol and drug abuse, HIV and STD infection, early pregnancy, homelessness, depression, cutting or other forms of self-harm and suicide. Over 600 low-income LGBTQ youth are engaged in services annually.
How will this project solve this problem?
After school programs, weekend activities, support groups, life skills coaching, referrals to mental health services: individual & family counseling, crisis intervention, referrals to support services: emergency housing, food stamps, ect.
Potential Long Term Impact
Last year we successfully intervened with 8 youth to prevent suicide. We also found housing for 8 homeless youth. Providing safe space for youth, improving self-awareness, confidence and helping youth develop a positive self-image saves lives!
Project Message
At Pridelines I learned to love & accept myself. Before I came here, I thought about suicide all the time… Meeting other LGBT youth & hearing theirs stories changed my life! Now I believe in myself…
