This project will provide elementary education for 100 Eskar women in Afghanistan who are widowed and handicapped through providing winter internship opportunities for 20 undergraduate students.
This project is addressing the chronic illiteracy problems starting with Eskar, one of the excluded villages in Northeast Afghanistan that never had any schools available in its history untill 2004. By providing education for mothers who are widowed and handicapped they will then be employed in newly opened elementary schools; empowered, and enabled to help their children. So that, the growing gap between literate children and illiterate mothers and dependence level can be reduced.
Providing 20 teachers with untraditional curriculum. The 100 women selected for this program will be offered basic, intermediate, and intensive Persian and Math courses equivalent of grade 1- 7 over the period of three months.
- 100 women are provided literacy skills empowering them to be independent through getting jobs in the elementary schools. - Can participate in other potential skill related programs that require elementary literacy
