A Tragedy

By a male, under 16 years old, in Mt Elgon District, Kenya
Map of A TRAGEDY In our community in Mt Elgon District there once existed a tribal fight among ourselves. The community fought over land and chasing away members of their own community, the people had no place to stay. As a result the people had no food to eat their property was lost and at some extent people lost their lives. People starved and due to the insecurity in thee region the government tried and take charge on the people who were inciting others and bring out the problem. It successfully accomplished its goal of cracking down the tribalistic war. After all had cooled down the people were the one who had a problem. Their children had no where to attend their schooling. Teachers who were unable to attend the students in their education centers. Fortunately the Kenya Redcross stepped in and sorted out the whole issue by providing relief food to the community and building up for the people new place for shelter and supporting the government in providing security. Saved At An Hour Of Need

By a female, 16-21 years old, in Kakamega Central, Kenya
Map of SAVED AT AN HOUR OF NEED I am Harriet Shipimilu currently undertaking Accounts in Lihembe college. I have been delivered from a true dungeon of dispair where all the laws and the constitution had the blue print of failure. This was a result of losing both my parents. I had to stagger on in life until 2005 when a home called by name Kakamega Orphans Care Center truely cared and it was my turn this time. I had to pinch myself to confirm that i was not dreaming as it was far too good to be true that this home would support me, accomodate me and get me to school. Propelled by this i have been driven to work extremely hard until after qualifying my exams i am now in college. I have no words to appriciate this commited Home but pray that God opens even more doors for them to continue supporting the needy. Read more.

Solar System

By a female, 46-60 years old , in Busia, Kenya
Map of SOLAR SYSTEM I had just finished my house and everything was in place except for one thing , electricity.though the house was beautiful and amazing, when it was nightfall things were absolutely different.too much darkness engulfed the huge mansion that i had just built and for once this poised a great threat to me because of increased robbery in the area and the amount of money i daily spent to ensure that the whole mansion of eighteen bedroom was glowing with light. one day a friend of mine who was visiting noticed this problem and asked me why i had no electricity in the house.i explained to him about the expenses of bringing the electricity which was two kilometer away to my home with no one on the community ready to help.so he gave me another alternative of buying a combination of solar systems that would offer an amount of watts to will provide lights to the entire mansion.yeah that was a good idea and so i bought about four solar panels and connected everything in the house and this became the end of darkness and dullness in the house.because after charging the solar the entire day it would provide enough watts to provide light in the whole mansion and even i used to operate my television radios and even for cooking as i waited for the electricity to arrive. Education In Turkana

By a female, 22-30 years old, in Turkana, Kenya
Map of EDUCATION IN TURKANA Turkana district was a very back- ward community. The adults did not realise the importance of education hence no emphasis was put on their children to take up lessons. Instead ther was spent on their cultural activities eg. taking care of livestock. I was exceptional and had different view of life. I had been born in Turkana and partly raised by my grandparents but my father who worked in Nairobi and lived with my mother a Kikuyu had ensured that when i had become of age, he had sent me to a boarding school. Taking my studies seriously, i had pursed a bachelor of education and had graduated. I had to declare to see development in my rural home ans was determined to make a change. However many odds were against me. I wanted to give education to the children in the village but didn't have the neccesary equipment and cash to do so. Luckily the government through the MP was able to put up classrooms and post a few more teachers and as the head teacher i was able to guide and motivate all the road to success. We now have students who have enrolled for studies and are seriously trying to brighten their future through education. Read more.
