A-Action program was initiated by Little Angels Action Fund(LAA) in 2009 in China. It is an annual program that provides fund and supervision to youth (10 to 18 years old) to encourage them to participate in social services. By encouraging youth participation, A-Action builds citizenship awareness in youths' mind. From 2009 to 2013, A-Action funded 166 youth projects in 22 provinces and municipalities in China. In 2014, A-Action will fund 100 youth teams in Mainland China.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In China nowadays, youth "doing well in studies" is overwhelmingly emphasized. By contrast, serving spirit is neglected. For example, youth spend most of their time on school class and homework, but very little (if any) time on community service which, in fact, is more important to turn one to a good citizen that makes contribution to the society in longer term.
How will this project solve this problem?
It is not because youth are not seeing what is happening in their community nor they are not willing to serve. It is just because there hasn't been an atmosphere that encourages youth to do something, a trigger that calls for action. A-Action IS the trigger. A-Action provides fund to encourage youth to discover the social problem, to create a plan to address it and to build a team to do something about it. Through this service-learning mode, youth get the sense that they CAN make a difference.
Potential Long Term Impact
By initiating and implementing their own community service projects, youth will develop crucial abilities that will benefit them throughout their life such as creativity, leadership, communication skills, management skills, and most importantly, foster their sense of social responsibility to become contributing members of society.
