Project Summary: This a sanitation and water project that contains a revolving loan fund. Women self help groups issued credit to communities member to purchase the materials and labor to construct household toilets and water connections. Subsidies were given to help offset the cost of the construction through a government subsidy facilitated by Gramalaya. Grants were provided for hygiene education and to renovate community and school water supplies and school toilets were installed lacked basic water and sanitation facilities.
Project Goal(s): To provide safe water and clean sanitation facilities to each individual in the community through hygiene education and installation of household toilets and water connections.
Project Objectives: •Renovate exiting water sources •Construct 100 household toilets •Install 50 water connection to households •Renovate school toilets •Provide water taps to the school •Provide hygiene education •Promote kitchen gardens •Facilitate and train existing women’s self help groups to Were all objectives met? If not, why: All objectives were met.
Project Outcomes: •118 household toilets were installed. •50 water connections to household were completed •124 kitchen gardens were established •Announced village as 100% sanitized. •School toilets were renovated •A garden was established at the school •Water taps were constructed at schools and community hand pumps were repaired. •6 children’s groups were formed and learned about good hygiene practices. •Formation of water and sanitation committee to promote good hygiene practices, receive training on installing toilets and how to sustain and maintain water and sanitation facilities.
