We are so grateful for your continued support of our communities in Nicaragura! You can also access this update on the Agros International website at http://www.agros.org/ag/villagepdfs/FuturodelManana.pdf.

We are sharing with you the Summer 2011 update for Futuro del Mañana, which is exceptional because it will actually be the final report from this community. Thanks to the support of generous people like you, and years of hard work on the part of our families, Futuro del Mañana has reached the point of self-sustainbility and will no longer receive direct support from Agros. Community members even held a land title ceremony to celebrate that most have paid off their land loans and now own the land outright! Though we'll still be keeping in contact with Futuro del Mañana, your funds will go to support other communites in need in Nicaragua. You'll begin receiving information about some of these other communities in future updates, and can begin to chart their progress.

As always, we’d welcome any feedback you may have about these reports. On behalf of the families of Futuro del Mañana, thanks again for your partnership in helping them to escape the cycle of generational poverty in Nicaragua.

We are especially happy to share with you the Spring 2011 update for Futuro del Mañana because this is actually the last update that will feature this community! Thanks to the support of generous people like you, Futuro del Mañana has reached the point of self-sustainbility and will no longer receive direct support from Agros. Community members even held a land title ceremony to celebrate that they have paid off their land loans and now own the land themselves! Though we'll still be keeping in contact with Futuro del Mañana, your funds will go to support other communites in need in Nicaragua. We are happy to share with you the Winter 2011 update for the Agros Nicaragua community of Futuro del Mañana. The update is also available on the Agros website at http://www.agros.org/ag/villagepdfs/FuturodelManana.pdf. The report discusses initiatives your support has enabled, like the families’ efforts at crop diversification and improvements to the irrigation system that they recently made. Although the community has faced many challenges, these families are still determined to work their way out of poverty. In addition to these more recent updates, the report also features Annual Indicators that are used to measure the progress of the village over time, so that you can track the community's journey.

Friends of Agros,

Thank you so much for your continued support of Agros villages like Futuro del Mañana! The village and community continue to make great strides to creating a prosperous village with 100 percent of the villagers participating in some form of income-generating projects.

For the majority of families in Futuro these income-generating activities involve producing agricultural products. Even though production has fallen due to drought in the region, the families persevere. This quarter the families have begun plans to construct water basins in the field that have the least access to water. These water basins will help mitigate the effects of the drought and allow for increases in productivity.

Friends of Agros,

Thank you so much for your continued support of Agros villages like Futuro del Mañana! The village and community continue to make great strides to land ownership this quarter with 72 percent of their land loans paid off.

Last quarter we quoted one of these hard working villagers on their commitment to paying back their land loans. We are very happy to report that this family has paid off their land loan entirely and will be receiving the title to their land very soon. Sayda, the matriarch of the family, had this to say about her family’s success: “I can now rest and think about other projects for the children. It is so nice to be free from this type of commitment and even nicer knowing that I have kept my word with Agros.”

A quote from one of the villagers demonstrates her family’s commitment to paying back their land loans: “It has taken a lot of sacrifice for us to pay our loans,” says Sayda, “but even though it is hard, we are right on schedule. In my household we may not always buy new dresses or shoes or decorations, but we are always paying our loans on time. We really want to be the next family to fully pay off and get our land title and we are really close to being done!”
