Enable the community of Fordnagar, Bangladesh to improve their health and use their time for economic development by building and maintaining a sustainable, safe water & sanitation system
Imagine thinking the water you drink is safe only to find out that it’s contaminated by arsenic. This is what has happened to the 1,500 residents of Fordnagar. Today, drinking water is collected from either contaminated unprotected sources of distant untainted wells. The water problems facing the community are further exacerbated by unhygienic practices, which contaminate their open sources. This has led to an increase in disease & illness, which has hit the children of Fordnagar the hardest.
10 new wells will be drilled for the community; each household will build a sanitary pit latrine. Local technicians, selected by the community, will be trained to operate & maintain it. A local water committee will oversee project.
1,500 people will receive access to safe, adequate water & sanitation. The community will have ownership of the project & will create systems for its maintenance & upkeep.
