Case of sucess from a mother from the project

JOB TRAINING FOR POOR MOTHER-SICK CHILDREN BRAZIL

Update October 2011

The Professionalization Project increase and improve a lot since the beginning.

Saúde Criança made some huge changed in the last year, becoming a social franchise and spreading the methodology on that model through Brazil.

Since the beginning of the project, during the past years now we have offered to students 1730 work tools and 2725 professional training courses, internal and external and we hope to keep increasing the numbers of graduation.

During those years, we had a lot be proud. Some great results and families histories that make us going, searching from results like that mother Silvana and her daughter Renatha.

Renatha was a healthy eight-year old when, all of a sudden, she started to get weak fevers that would come and go, with no particular symptoms associated with them. Silvana, her mother, thought these fevers were caused by a mere cold. But the fevers would not go away. Renatha was taken to a local health unit, and later remitted to a hospital. Nobody knew what was wrong. At last, Silvana took her daughter, Renatha, to Hospital da Lagoa, where she was diagnosed with a lymphoma. “Okay, so what does that mean?” –said Silvana, unaware of the gravity of the disease. “It’s a type of cancer,” said the doctor. “If she gets chemo she could leave the hospital, if she doesn’t get chemo, she will leave us,” he added.

After the initial shock, Silvana turned to Saúde Criança: “I got there expecting the worst. What am I doing here?” –she wondered. “I never thought one day I would need help.” Time management was a great concern for her, as she would have to spend an undetermined period of time at the hospital with her daughter. Before Renatha was diagnosed with cancer, Silvana had managed to make ends meet as a manicurist in São João de Meriti, Baixada Fluminense (RJ). Her daughter’s disease, however, changed everything. Silvana would now have to stop working, a luxury that, as an independent beautician, she could not afford.

Silvana was not alone. “You come from a life where you never get any words of encouragement. Suddenly you get there [Saúde Criança] and they say: “you are not alone.” That’s how it works at Saúde Criança: you’re never alone.” In addition to receiving a housing stipend, in her two years at Saúde Criança, Silvana received formal training as a manicurist, hairdresser, hair colorist, and make-up artist. She earned a diploma, working tools, and self-esteem. Renatha got chemo and lost all her hair, but she never lost her courage and the will to move on. She continued her studies and defeated cancer. Today she is her mother’s greatest supporter. She started a blog , so that her mother could advertize her work as an independent beautician. Renatha responds to all the emails, is engaged in various social networks, and is always looking for new ways to support her mother. Silvana, in turn, decided to reciprocate all the help she got when she most needed it. She has participated as a volunteer at Saúde Criança’s “Beauty Day,” where students and volunteers from the institution’s beauty courses offer free services for women. Additionally, Silvana is a hairdressing instructor at Roda Viva, an NGO in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.

Links:

Search for us on internet

See us on youtube

Attachments:

Mother and her daughter (DOCX)

She entered Saúde Criança when her son had a serious asthma crises and had to stayed in Lagoa Hospital.The doctors there sent her to Saúde Criança and since that her life changed a lot.

In her words "With Saúde Criança I'm able to but my son medicines.My income and the food in my home also improve a lot."Now she is graduated in hairdresser and work at home with clients form the community.

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/651/DSC00849_Small.JPG' alt='Mothers students making the cake for the party'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Mothers students making the cake for the party

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/651/cs183_Small.JPG' alt='mother receiving the diploma'style='margin: 5px;'/>

mother receiving the diploma

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/651/cs168_Small.JPG' alt='mother making a speech on the graduation'style='margin: 5px;'/>

mother making a speech on the graduation

Links:

See our website

T.S was an exceptional student during her time at the professionalization project in Saúde Criança Renascer. She has 3 children and is expecting another one. Due to her effort during her time at the courses, we built her a beauty saloon in her house. Another company partner of one of our sponsor gave her the furniture for her saloon.
She is working there and already has clients. In her words:” Now I am very happy and can say that my dreams came true, I have a profession and the best for me, is that I know now that I can support my children with my work. ”Before that she said that she cant do that specially for her second son that is diabetics.
For her its important to crab all the opportunities in life and that is what she did with the help of Saúde Criança Renascer
You can see her picture and her beauty saloon attached.
Thanks for all our donors so far.Without them we cant keep our quality and our good results

Bringing Family together through education

Update May 2009

The project Bringing Families together trough education increase and improve a lot since the beginning.

During those 17 years of project we realized that the majority of our families don’t have any income or profession qualification. From that we realized that the profissionalization of them is essential to allow them to leave the cycle of needed of assistance and truly walk to be a citizen and have social dignity.

At this moment we are preparing to begin the cooking course .During those years of project we realized that there is a big demand for that in our public. We already have a kitchen but we will need kitchen tools and equipments. Right now we are looking for sponsors on that and the donations receive from Global Giving will help a lot on that

Since the beginning of the project, during the past years now we have offered to students 1566 work tools and 2356 professional training courses, internal and external and we hope to keep increasing the numbers of graduation.
Inside Renascer there is a beauty school saloon and the mothers that graduated in the course attend people form the community as an internship .Part or the money from that is use in culture programs for the mothers
We also do some days out in other organizations where the mothers put in practice what they learned, showed in attachment.

And also we have some group therapy, open talks etc like showed in attachment.

Renascer’s team want to thanks a lot the donors that choose this project to support , with their help we could achieved those great results showed in attachment.

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/651/Imagem_319_Small.jpg' alt='last graduation'style='margin: 5px;'/>

last graduation

During those 16 years of project we realized that the majority of our families don’t have any income or profession qualification. From that we realized that the profissionalization of them is essential to allow them to leave the cycle of needed of assistance and truly walk to be a citizen and have social dignity.
On April 2008, 37 students graduated from the profession courses.
Since the beginning of the project, during the past years now we have offered to students more than 1650 work tools and around 2055 professional training courses, internal and external and we hope to keep increasing the numbers of graduation.
Our goal is to professionalize 260 persons by year and donate 280 working tools in next year project.

The main objective of the project is to offer to the families attended tools so that they can work and generate money to support the family after the period in Renascer. There is 3 types or work inside the project:
Internal courses in the beauty area with a diploma , external courses and the donation of working tools for every woman or man graduated in the course .For the internal courses we also offer courses to improve their self stem like professional gesture , how to speak and to behave in a work place.

Since our main project is in the beauty area we offer deontological service for the students to improve their appearance and healthy.

Inside the project there is also the possibility of Renascer build a salon inside the mothers house so they can work at home near their sick children.

In next year project, 2009 the project will open a new course in the cooking area .During those years of project we realized that there is a big demand for that in our public. We already have a kitchen but we will need kitchen tools and equipments.
We want to begin with two class following the same model or the beauty project

Renascer’s team want to thanks a lot the donors that choose this project to support , with their help we could achieved those great results showed above!

Update Report December 2007

The project Bringing Families together through education has increased and improved a lot since the beginning.

The beauty salon/school continue after the restoration giving hairdresser, coloring, make-up and manicure training. This year we began to give wax training and it has been a success. More than that one of the mothers trained by Renascer began to give lessons on hairstyle. And another one start a salon in her own house and is doing very well.

The last donations received from GlobalGiving, will enable Renascer to buy more tools and products to the salon..
On August, 56 students graduated from the courses.

Since the beginning of the project, during the past years now we have offered to students 1627 work tools and 2055 professional training courses, internal and external and we hope to keep increasing the numbers of graduation.

Please click below to read the update and see a graph of how family income is affected by this project!
