From the Field: Project Update

Our project in Pallabi has been divided into three phases. The first two phases are complete and have been tremendously successful. (See below for an update on the completed phases)

In Phase III, WaterPartners, in collaboration with the partner organization, has begun expansion into 4 additional neighborhoods. In this phase, the neighborhoods have built four public water points, one public latrine, and 50 household latrines. Work is also underway for five more public water points.

Phase III neighborhoods have also established community water boards, led by women of the community, to manage the new water points. In addition, our partner organization is continuing to hold health education training and maintenance training.

Two types of latrines are being constructed as part of these projects. Cluster latrines that can serve up to 250 people are being used in some areas. These latrines will be served by septic tanks and will have several private stalls to accommodate both adults and children. Additionally, individual latrines are being constructed in households that wish to have a private latrine. These households are eligible for loans to purchase the materials needed to construct basic pit latrines.

Links:

Read about a recent visit to Pallabi

Attachments:

From the Field: Pallabi Slum Phases I & II_Complete (PDF)

Read more about the Pallabi Slum Projects (PDF)
