Reports from the Field - Community Banks in Michoacan

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Bancos_Comunitarios_Small.jpg' alt='A happy community bank member'style='margin: 5px;'/>

A happy community bank member

This week, we bring you testimonials from members of three community banks and participants in YQYP workshops in Meseta Purépecha, Michoacán; we think they speak for themselves:

Xate Bank: “We are happy with the bank because now we don’t have to go back to the local lenders who charged us high interest to the point of losing our sewing machines in order to pay them back what they asked. Now with the [community] bank we feel more secure because we know that we have savings and can use them for whatever we need.”

Santa Cecilia Bank (testimonial from the husband of the secretary of the bank committee): “I am happy that my wife invited me to the bank and to the workshop. At first, I didn’t want to come, but when they came from Mexico to give us the workshop I liked it a lot because I had fun doing the activities and exercises, they even helped me at work because I work in construction and I was embarrassed to ask questions about things I didn’t understand. The workshop ended Sunday and on Monday I was asking everything with confidence. It even helped me to improve my communication with my wife and my children. Many thanks to you all for all of this knowledge.”

Nuriten Bank (testimonial from a member): After I got married, I didn’t go out; here it’s not the custom for women to go to meetings or do things outside of the house. My mother-in-law says that this is not acceptable and that my place is in the home, and that’s how it should be. But my sister invited me to the workshop and it’s the nicest thing I’ve experienced; I laughed a lot, I said things I’ve never said before, for the first time I thought about myself. I realized that it’s like a door opened because of everything I learned in the workshop, now I smile more and value myself. I speak about myself and I am thinking that if there is another workshop I’m going to bring my mother-in-law even though we’ll go in secret [laughs].”

Please donate today to help support our work to empower the people of Michoacán and Mexico!

___________________________________________________________________

Good results in Michoacan, Oaxaca, and Puebla

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Microfinanza_Diciembre_Small.jpg' alt='Participants at one of our workshops'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Participants at one of our workshops

We recently finished a comprehensive microfinance and microenterprise program in Michoacán, Puebla, and Oaxaca, with very good results! The program included the following workshops:

“I want to, I can… start my business”

“I want to, I can… collaborate to produce goods”

“I want to, I can… plan my business”

Overall, the project had 375 direct beneficiaries in the three participating states. During the implementation of the project, 15 community banks were opened, which have so far gained 210 members in all. The majority of the members are women.

During our evaluation, we found that the participants have begun to embrace a culture of savings, which is now permeating their families and communities. Furthermore, after participating in our “I want to, I can” workshops, community bank members are now aware of the importance of becoming agents of change through real and lasting empowerment. This will help them to make decisions in an informed and autonomous manner. The impact of this program on its participants will undoubtedly be sustained throughout the years and be passed on from person to person, hopefully improving the quality of life of all members of their communities.

Please consider making a donation to our “I want to, I can” microfinance programs so that we can continue to empower the citizens of Mexico to become agents of change.

_____________________________________________________

October Update: A Report From the Field

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/DSC00047_Small.jpg' alt='In front of the purification center'style='margin: 5px;'/>

In front of the purification center

This month, Adanelli Santana, the coordinator of our microfinance and microenterprise programs, accompanied a representative of one of our funders on a visit to Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo to visit the community banks that have been established through our collaboration with the people there.

One of the banks, the Banco CLC, funds a microenterprise that purifies and distributes water to businesses, schools, and homes in the area. On average, they distribute 40 jugs of water throughout the community each week. The group that runs the purification and distribution business has asked for training in marketing, sales strategies, business organization, and cost analysis, as a new purification center has opened close by and they are fearing for their sales. They hope that receiving training in these topics will help them to become more competitive and keep their share of the market in the area.

Please consider making a donation to IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo’s microfinance programs. Your support will help us to continue to provide resources and training to community bank members like those that work for the water purification and distribution business in Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo.

____________________________________________________

On September 11th, El Banco de la Colonia Obrera had a meeting to discuss the end of their cycle, and accept new members. As of the end of September of this year, the four banks had a combined total accumulated savings of $253,113 MXN (about $19,000 US). All of these resources will allow new businesses to begin and allow established businesses to continue to grow and flourish.

Your continued support to our microfinance projects in Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Michoacán, and Puebla will help to allow individuals in these marginalized communities to lift themselves out of poverty and create better lives for themselves in a sustainable manner. Thank you for your donation!

July Update Report - Notes from our Intern

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/DSC_0522_Small.jpg' alt='Bank member from Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Bank member from Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo

In July Matt Rolland, an IMIFAP – “I want to, I can” microfinance interns, had the unique experience of visiting our project in Hidalgo. Along with IMIFAP´s project coordinator and local project facilitator he traveled first to the town of Ixmiquilpan, and then further into the state of Hidalgo. They saw five communities in two days, including, “one of the remotest communities that I´ve ever been to,” which they reached by a winding one lane road that curved around mountainsides. Here is Matt´s reflection on the experience:

“The opportunity to contribute to a successful and unique microfinance program at IMIFAP is deepening my understanding of how microfinance enhances well-being in a community. This past weekend, visiting five community banks initiated by IMIFAP in Hidalgo, strengthened my belief in the importance of combining educational and micro-business support with microfinance services. Members of the banks are not only benefiting from the opportunity to save and receive loans, but they are taking ownership over their banks and livelihoods. Their experiences, along with the kindness and determination they shared with me this weekend, have added to the growing motivation and understanding I receive during my IMIFAP internship, providing guidance as I pursue a career in microfinance program design.”

Matt Rolland is a summer 2011 intern at IMIFAP – “I want to, I can” in the productive projects and microfinance department. He recently finished a year-long Fulbright fellowship at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, where he investigated microfinance adaptations in high-migration areas and migrant entrepreunership. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a B.A. in Economics and International Studies.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Links:

IMIFAP "Yo quiero, yo puedo" Homepage

June Update Report - Sowing Seeds for Success!

Until now, we have been implementing our microfinance project in the states of Hidalgo and Oaxaca. We are pleased to say that over the course of June, we expanded the project to three new communities in Michoacán and one in Puebla as well. We are very excited to bring our microfinance workshops to participants in new communities, and expect that it will be a great experience for all!

Also in June, we continued to run marketing and business administration workshops in the communities in Oaxaca and Hidalgo. As a result of these workshops participants are putting their new knowledge to use to help their different businesses grow. They continue to strengthen their business skills and financial independence, sowing the seeds for future success. They also continue to save in the community banks, providing loans for new businesses. This saving and loans cycle reinforces community integration and support.

Your continued support enables these individuals, their businesses, and their communities to flourish. Thank you!

May Update Report - Growing Community Banks

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/DSC01774_Small.JPG' alt='Entrepreneurs are happy with their results!'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Entrepreneurs are happy with their results!

May has been a busy and interesting month with many consulting trips to the community banks in Hidalgo and Oaxaca. We are very excited because several groups in the communities have requested finance and administration workshops so they can improve their businesses.

We are giving administration and accounting workshops to the members of the community banks in Ixmiquilpan Hidalgo. In these workshops, our facilitators helped the community bank members to improve their income and expense tracking, so they can better manage their savings.

We have also been providing specific advice to each group of entrepreneurs about their businesses. We have helped groups that raise livestock, have sowing businesses, own bakeries and run a water purification plant. With our support, we hope their businesses will grow and become an example to other entrepreneurs in communities nearby.

Thanks to your support, the participants in our program continue to improve their banks and businesses. With these workshops, bank members will be able to better organize their savings, and plan their expenses and investments more efficiently. Thank you very much!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

¡Muchas gracias!

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/DSC01836_Small.JPG' alt='Microfinance learning in action'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Microfinance learning in action

She tells us about “one of the most successful and admirable communities involved in the project”:

“In a rural area, 40 minutes away from the city, accessible by unsafe public transport that runs on a dirt road only twice a day, you will find the community of Comaple, Hidalgo. Comaple is one of the most remote and marginalized communities in Hidalgo; its population lives in extreme poverty, with no resources and very little education. However, I admire this community because of its determination to develop and prosper.

IMIFAP’s workshop formed a community bank, in which 10 members have been consistently saving for over a year now. Despite the low level of education and poor living conditions in Compale, bank members make an enormous daily effort to continue saving money. They hope to start a business selling tortillas and expand their existing business raising pigs by using the resources that members have saved in the community bank. The project has already achieved significant improvements in the community’s development, and participants are eager to continue learning and improving their lives.”

Brenda’s testimony about Comaple is not the only one. We invite you to make a recurring donation today and continue supporting communities like Compale that, with your help, have managed to beat the odds and prosper!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/SAM_0256_Small.JPG' alt='Local facilitator Brenda'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Local facilitator Brenda

March Update Report - “To infinity and beyond"

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/SAM_0457_Small.JPG' alt='Community bank members'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Community bank members

In March, the IMIFAP “I want to, I can” microfinance project has been incredibly successful, and the microentrepreneurs in Hidalgo in particular have grown their businesses remarkably. Also amazing are the advances that have been made in the 5 community banks in Hidalgo that were created as a result of neighboring communities’ successes, and how the members have used the loans from the community banks to create and expand their businesses.

Community banks:

- “La Unión” in Molango, Hidalgo: 20 members, total savings of 33,358 pesos (2,800 dollars) of which 29,000 pesos (2,434 dollars) have been loaned. Printing business.

- “Ban Sanbers” in San Bernardo, Hidalgo: 20 members, total savings of 4,385 pesos (368 dollars) of which 2,000 pesos (168 dollars) have been loaned. Food stall business.

- “Emprendiendo” in Tolago, Hidalgo: 23 members, total savings of 4,440 pesos ($373 dollars) of which 2,500 pesos (210 dollars) have been loaned. Pig raising business.

- “Un Nuevo Amanecer” in El Suspiro, Hidalgo: 14 members, total savings of 20,500 pesos (1,720 dollars) of which 19,200 pesos (1,611 dollars) have been loaned. Bakeries, food stores, fish farming, animal raising and butcheries.

- “La Esperanza” in Coamaple, Hidalgo: 10 members, total savings of 17,000 pesos (1,430 dollars) of which 1,500 pesos (126 dollars) have been loaned. Expansion of pig raising to include pig breeding.

We are particularly excited about the project in Molango, which is the largest one, and was developed out of the community’s recognition of it being a good investment. The plan involves the creation of a printing business that deals with printing cards, bags, canvas and other products. Given that such a service didn’t previously exist in the community, and based on their business plan, they believe it will be very successful.

All these projects are the result of community planning, which is why we are very excited to keep supporting them and encouraging their development. Let’s continue to support these communities: with your help, their growth continues to be possible!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/SAM_0467_Small.JPG' alt='Pig raising business'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Pig raising business

GlobalGiving Site Visit With IMIFAP

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/IMG_0080_Small.JPG' alt='Microfinance-- Communal Water Distribution System'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Microfinance-- Communal Water Distribution System

IMIFAP does AMAZING work!!! I am not entirely sure how else to say it. My site visit with IMIFAP was a blessing and perhaps one of the most inspiring visits I have personally encountered in nearly three years of development work throughout much of the world. The family environment at IMIFAP headquarters serves only as a complimentary bonus to the quality professionalism and in depth analysis in which they adhere to. It's with no surprise that IMIFAP has been so successful using GlobalGiving. The team is diverse, highly educated, meticulous, innovative, collaborative, and passionate-- need I go on.

In addition to taking me to visit one of the beneficiaries of their microfinance project (a huge success story--see attached photo), IMIFAP allowed me the unique privilege of sitting in on one of their workshops geared towards educating women. A synopsis of this project is beyond the scope of this brief summary but it should be recognized that IMIFAP has established a unique, effective methodology that has been implemented by trained, seasoned experts and engendered within the communities they serve. One of the experts said during the workshop that their objective is to be "facilitators" not "directors." A profound statement indeed.

In addition to their unwavering passion and unfettered community support, they are perhaps one of the most hospitable organizations I have had the opportunity to encounter. It is without reservation that I wholeheartedly endorse IMIFAP and encourage GlobalGiving donors wanting to channel funds to high impact work, to consider this organization. In sum, there is no luck involved in the success rates achieved with IMIFAP projects and their ability to continuously replicate.

Thanks to Shoshanna and all the other members of IMIFAP who made this site visit a memorable visit and established an organizational paragon to be emulated throughout the development field.

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/IMG_0117_Small.JPG' alt='Workshop'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Workshop

January Project Update - New Bank Members!

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/foto_cuastionario_gg_Small.jpg' alt='Program participant answers questionnaire'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Program participant answers questionnaire

IMIFAP-“I want to, I can” visited three communities in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca in January where new community banks have been saving for about 10 weeks. Our visit spurred a lot of new enthusiasm among community members!

In one of the communities we visited, Salcipuedes, Tuxtepec, the number of bank members nearly doubled during January. Community members who were previously unsure about participating attended our meeting with the bank members and left excited about the program. We expect this bank to be very successful as these new members contribute their energy and savings.

During the January visits we also undertook 45 pre-program questionnaires with members of the community banks in Salcipuedes and Colonia Obrera, Tuxtepec. Evaluation is an important part of our methodology because above all we want to ensure that IMIFAP-“I want to, I can” programs are successful. Together with undertaking these questionnaires again after the program, we will be able to measure changes in savings practices, life skills and knowledge about starting small businesses.

Thank you for your continued support of microenterprise in communities in Hidalgo and Oaxaca, Mexico.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Links:

IMIFAP's homepage

December Project Update - A Very Happy New Year!

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/microfinance_Small.jpg' alt='A program participant tallies savings.'style='margin: 5px;'/>

A program participant tallies savings.

Year-end total savings and savings rates are in! The community banks have crunched and tallied the numbers and the results are astounding:

Over the course of the program, 179 participants in 14 banks have saved a total of 234,800 pesos (19,000 dollars). The bank with the highest total savings was Banco Unión with 31,468 pesos (2,545 dollars) saved by its members, in Los Fresnos, Hidalgo. The average savings rate per person across all of the banks was 48 pesos per week, which is about 4 dollars. Some members are now able to save nearly as much as they used to earn in an entire week due to the profits from small businesses they started with their savings!

Needless to say, our microfinance participants will be celebrating their success this New Year. We hope that you will celebrate as well for having contributed to the success of this program in 2010, and will consider making a recurring donation to support the program’s growth in 2011. Happy New Year from IMIFAP-“I want to, I can”!

________________________________________________________________________________

Links:

IMIFAP's Homepage

November Project Update - Inaugurating Community Change

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/planta_inauguracin_Small.jpg' alt='Celebrating the inauguration of the plant!'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Celebrating the inauguration of the plant!

November was an exciting month for the IMIFAP “I want to, I can” microfinance program! After months of saving, preparation and hard work, bank members in Ixmiquilpan celebrated the inauguration of their water purification plant. These microfinance participants are not only changing their own lives, they are changing their communities!

Also last month, five new banks were started in Molango, Hidalgo, adding 69 participants to the program. IMIFAP’s local facilitators visited the communities to help get the banks started and establish the members’ “rights and responsibilities”.

Our program participants didn’t wait until the New Year to make a new beginning and a positive change in their lives, and neither should you! Help make a difference today by continuing to support microfinance in these communities.

________________________________________________________________

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/nuevo_banco_molango_Small.JPG' alt='Members of a new bank in Molango get together'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Members of a new bank in Molango get together

Links:

IMIFAP's homepage

September & October Project Update: Water and Iron

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Reviewing_business_plan_Small.JPG' alt='Bank member improves his business plan with IMIFAP'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Bank member improves his business plan with IMIFAP

Over the past two months, the members of community banks in Hidalgo have worked hard to make their ideas a reality. Below you will find an update on the water purification project mentioned in August’s report as well as the story of two more bank members working to improve their blacksmith shop.

The water purification project in Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo has advanced over the past two months. The members of “Banco C.L.C.” made their first payment on the water purification plant using their savings, and expect the system to be up and running in a month, bringing affordable, potable water to the community.

Also in Ixmiquilpan, two members of the community bank “La Union,” a blacksmith and his wife, are improving their small business. With a loan from IMIFAP “I want to, I can”, they were able to purchase new equipment that will improve the quality and expand the type of products they produce. Previously, they sold only housing fixtures such as doors and windows, but now he is brainstorming what other metal products will sell well. They are also planning to acquire business cards, are developing a marketing plan to the reach more clients, and are considering hiring an assistant so that the business can grow even more.

The determination and creativity of our microfinance program participants is astounding. Thank you for supporting them as they search for ways to improve their lives and their communities.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Links:

IMIFAP's homepage

August Project Update – Business ideas flourish

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Banco_El_Colchoncito_Panaderia_business_plan_Small.JPG' alt='Women at the bakery refine their business plan'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Women at the bakery refine their business plan

Participants of IMIFAP’s “I want to, I can” microfinance programs in Hidalgo continue to utilize the skills learned in the June workshop. Last month, IMIFAP personnel visited the communities to help more community bank members operationalize their business ideas. Below you will find examples of these new, exciting projects that soon will be underway. Plans for the growth of the bakery and creation of a pharmacy mentioned last month are also progressing.

In Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, over 30 members of “Banco C.L.C.” are excited about their plans to install a water purification system in their community. The local water quality is so poor that boiling the water does not make it drinkable, and purified water brought to Ixmiquilpan is expensive. The members of Banco C.L.C. are creating a business that will benefit the people of Ixmiquilpan by providing access to a more affordable source of potable water. The project will also generate profit for the bank members, increasing their income and improving the lives of their families. Banco C.L.C. needs a loan of approximately 12,500 USD (160,000 pesos) to begin the project.

During August in the remote community Los Fresnos, Hidalgo, members of “Bancofresnos” developed plans to create or improve four individual microenterprises: increasing the variety of products at a small convenient store, producing more tortillas for sale, selling tamales, and raising sheep. Each project needs a start-up loan of about 400 USD ($5,000 pesos) and the members of Bancofresnos have saved enough money to provide these loans internally, allowing them to start their small businesses without depending on third parties. They will benefit from paying lower interest rates on their loans, and the interest earned will help the bank grow and provide more loans in the future.

We are excited to soon see these businesses get off the ground as program participants continue to save money, improve business plans, and utilize the skills gained in IMIFAP “I want to, I can” workshops to better their lives and their communities.

Our project participants thank you for your continued support!

_______________________________________________________________

July Project Update - From banks to businesses

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Socia_El_colchoncito_Small.jpg' alt='A woman works at her community bank´s business'style='margin: 5px;'/>

A woman works at her community bank´s business

Utilizing the skills learned in last month’s workshop, the members of community banks in Hidalgo are now planning how to begin or grow their businesses. As part of the project, we have provided guidance in preparing a solid business plan since new entrepreneurs are often unable to calculate startup costs, maintain their business, or implement marketing strategies. Below you will find specific examples of the initiatives supported by this project.

In the community of El Vithe, Hidalgo nine women make up a bank called “El Colchoncito.” They have been operating a bakery for two years but had not developed a business plan or calculated costs and profits. Their small client base consists of approximately 15 houses in the community. They are now planning to purchase a vehicle to be able to more broadly distribute their products to communities that do not have bakeries. This could potentially increase sales by up to 400%.

The members of the community bank “La Superación,” near Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, wish to start a rural pharmacy. There are currently no pharmacies in their community and residents are forced to travel long distances in order to obtain medicines. The bank has obtained 40% of the resources necessary for the investment but still needs to research the legal requirements for opening a pharmacy as well as calculate the monthly costs.

We expect the first businesses from these community banks to be functioning in Hidalgo within a few more months. Thank you so much for your support!

-----------------------------------------

June Project Update- New banks and survey results

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Molango__Hidalgo_workshop_Small.JPG' alt='One of the skill-development workshops in Hidalgo'style='margin: 5px;'/>

One of the skill-development workshops in Hidalgo

We are excited to report that the number of community banks formed as part of this project has now increased to 11! (A quick description of the term “community bank”. We define it as “groups of ordinary people who are saving with the help of the project in order to start small businesses.”)

The numbers are in and the average amount of weekly savings per person in these 11 banks has been 37 pesos, which is almost three dollars. This amounts to about 581 pesos, or 46 dollars, saved by each bank each week. It is a lot of money for our beneficiaries and we are very proud of their achievement!

Now the community banks are on their second savings cycle, which ends in September. In the end of every cycle, the groups check their saving rates with the help of the project facilitators. To ensure the success of the banks and the new entrepreneurs, members also participate in training workshops. In the end of May and beginning of June we gave the bank members three workshops to develop their technical as well as personal skills. They received training in team work and financial and communication skills. They also learned about self-consciousness, decision making and gender equality.

We appreciate the help of our supporters; your generosity makes the dreams of these budding business owners come true and allows them to take their future into their own hands.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/Hidalgo_workshop_Small.JPG' alt='Participants after a skill-development workshop'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Participants after a skill-development workshop

Links:

Check out this program on our website

Attachments:

May Project Update- New banks and survey results!

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4565/GG_image_Small.jpg' alt='Panaderia (Bakery)'style='margin: 5px;'/>

Panaderia (Bakery)

What were 2 community banks last time we sent out an update, with your support has now grown to 10 community banks in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. This means that almost 150 families are benefitting. At the start of this month the groups closed their first savings cycle, saving for a range of development projects (e.g. implementation of a community-wide water purification system, construction of a rural pharmacy, starting a bakery and a sheep farm) which they will launch once they have accumulated sufficient capital. Over this savings cycle the groups made steady progress through weekly meetings during which they discussed projects and managed savings. Your donations are supporting these efforts by sending field-workers to help manage logistics and overcome project challenges.

Additionally, the results are in for the survey we had just undertaken, and we want to share it with you to give you a picture of the people you are supporting. Of all bank members surveyed, 8% were under the age of 18, 89% were between the ages of 18 – 65, and 2.5% were older than 65. The relative high percentage of minors means that these young members are become more responsible with their money by learning the importance of saving at an early age. The majority of the participants only finished secondary school, and these families earn around $340 dollars a month (which include all types of economic activities, aid, and remittances from abroad). From that, they manage to save about $23 dollars a month. When asked what they would do in the case of an emergency, only 11.7% said they had enough funds saved up that they would be able to utilize, the rest said they would ask a family member, neighbor, friend or bank for a loan, or would sell their possessions.

Next month we will provide a second training for community promoters, this time in communities in the northern part of Hidalgo state. 150 promoters have already signed up. Help us fund this training by making a donation.

We wanted to take a minute to thank you for your support and to update you on the progress of our microfinance initiative in Hidalgo. March proved to be a very successful month for the program. IMIFAP staff visited various banks and micro-enterprises post workshop to provide support, answer questions, and observe the progress of saving and planning. In one community, two new banks are being formed, each with 14 investors. The groups are excited and motivated to begin saving! In another community, 9 women from a bakery have been saving for three weeks. In various other communities, business plans are underway to calculate the costs the micro-enterprise, the investments, and the financial gain. Community members appear ambitious and motivated. During this visit, IMIFAP staff also administered evaluation questionnaires to community members to gauge progress, and we will share the results soon! Thank you for all your support.
