SPCA of Wake County Pet Food Pantry Update

<img src='http://cloud.globalgiving.org/pfil/4428/PFP_image_for_global_giving_Small.jpg' alt='A dog waits at the monthly Pet Food Pantry'style='margin: 5px;'/>

A dog waits at the monthly Pet Food Pantry

The SPCA’s AniMeals Program and Pet Food Pantry Program both made their final distribution of food for the year this past Saturday, December 18, so pet-owning families in need could feed their pets this Christmas.
    People who needed our help began arriving at 12 midnight to wait 8 hours in the cold and dark to ensure their pets would be able to eat this month. We opened the lobby at 6:00am to give these people warmth while they waited. By 7:00am, one hour before we started handing out food, over 80 people had gathered in the lobby of the SPCA’s Adoption Center, all incredibly grateful that they were able to keep their four-legged family members fed. And feed them we did. Please know that because of your help, more than 200 families are able to keep their pets this holiday season. ThePet Food Pantry Programs help hundreds of animals stay with their families by providing just a little bit of help to the people who love them.
    A donation to the SPCA of Wake County helps us make this possible. It costs the SPCA of Wake County around $6,000 to operate this program for 12 months. . A gift of $200 will rent a truck to pick up a delivery of donated food for the Pet Food Pantry. On behalf of the animals your generous gift will support, THANK YOU!

SPCA of Wake County Pet Food Pantry

The third Saturday of every month hundreds of people form a line outside the SPCA with one thing in mind, their pets' well-being. Each month the SPCA gives out 2.5 tons of dog and cat food to these families effected by the economy. The SPCA's pet Food Pantry has been up and running for two years, and has helped keep over 500 families together.

Here are some thank-you from several of the program's participants:

"I have been out of work since July 2009, and don't know what I would do without the gracious donations of cat food from the SPCA of Wake County. Holly, Tyler and Dillon (my cats) thank you, and I thank you. It is much appreciated."

"Thank you so much for donating to the Pet Food Pantry. In the last year and a half we had a fire at our house, our furnace had to be replaced, our mom had a serious illness and then knee surgery. Our mom is out of money and without the pantry we would be very hungry." (from the pets.)

Thanks to the generosity of the donors at globalgiving, the SPCA is able to help pets from going hungry, and keep families together. We are grateful for your support.

Links:

For more information, visit our website
