Our first harvesting of corn are here. The children have enjoyed some fresh corn. Please enjoy the pictures of them having a feast over the fresh corn.

In addition we have harvested 850 Kg of corn. This represents the orphans annual requirement of corn. This will be used to cook dinner for the children throughout the year. More harvesting in the way (peanuts, millet, and beans) and we will keep you informed. Thank you for your continued support.

As we grow these crop to feed the children, we are also creating jobs in the Samanko 2 community. This year, we hired the services of over 30 indigenous farmers.

Celebration of 1st anniversary

Last week, ACFA-Mali celebrated its first year anniversary. Indeed it was only a year ago, on 23 Jun 2010, that Lassine and Adama Traore arrived at ACFA-Mali in search of hope. And hope they, and those who followed them, have found, thanks to your continued support. Thank you! In fact, June has been a very busy month at ACFA-Mali with the following:

1. The children completed their academic year and are passing with flying colors to their respective next grade level;

2. ACFA-Mali was blessed with the arrival of two additional girls, both orphans;

3. The agricultural campaign has started to grow food to be used to feed the children;

4. The children celebrated ACFA-Mali’s 1^st anniversary on 23 Jun;

5. They participated in the celebration of the African Child Day with the government and other children organizations

6. We have arranged for their summer activities: theatrical art, drawing, musical instrument learning, etc.. and they are ready to commence this in July.

Unfortunately, we do have a challenge that we are currently facing: rain water is entering the children’s home (see attached pictures). It will cost us $956.67 to fix the yard so that water does not run into the house. You have the opportunity to make your donations go even further now. Our partner organization is matching 100% donations made to ACFA. So please consider donating to ACFA now, so that your funds will be multiplied and we can fix the children’s house yard. December 2010

It’s been a year since our orphanage in Bamako, ACFA-Mali, opened its doors to Mali orphans and vulnerable children. There is a lot to report on! The children have had a great year indeed! Their lives changed 180 degrees: they now have a home, a mother and father figure, sisters and brothers, friends, etc… They’ve completed a whole academic year and have performed well, taken and mastered basketball and taekwondo classes. On the citizenship side, they have each planted a tree to commemorate the 50^th anniversary of Mali’s independence. Please check out our 2010 Annual Report for more information on our accomplishment.

Children at the Zoo

The children are doing outstanding. They have learned to adjust to their new life, they participated in the Mali's "A Tree for Each Malian for the 50th Anniversary of the Independence". That's right, each of ACFA-Mali's children actually planted a tree for their country. Children who were on street only a few months ago begging for spare change to get something to eat, have already started contributing to their countries development, and are learning the virtues of good citizenship. Additionally the children enjoyed the visit during this reporting period of volunteers from the city of Richmond, VA. They have also been registered to Taekwondo classes. Enjoyed some of pictures that were taken during their field trip to the Zoo.

Since it's opening in Jun 2010, ACFA's children have enjoyed a great summer thanks to your support. We've established their birth certificate, taught them during summer classes to ensure that they are ready for the academic year, since they had missed last year due to their parents taking them to the street begging for money and food. They have now fully adjusted to their new home. This week they started school. Thank you for your continued support and please enjoy the result of your donations in the below metamorphized children's lives.

A Visit to A Child for All

A Child for All takes a sustainable approach to helping Malian orphans. The orphanage just opened in the middle of June and by the end of this month will have at least 8 orphans living there. Zoumana, the director of the orphanage, took us on a full day’s tour of the varying facets of the organization. We went to one of the farms which is used to support the children. The father of Kadiatou (the founder of A Child for All) owns the farm and oversees the production as well as working the land himself to help his daughter’s endeavor. The farm grows everything from peanuts to mangos and corn, the sprouts of which were just coming up as we were given a tour of the plot.

After seeing the farm, we went to the orphanage. The children, thus far all boys, were dressed in nice clean soccer uniforms, sitting outside playing with Legos, some of the first toys I’d seen on in the past month. Isha, the live-in head of the orphanage took us for a walk with the boys. They were well behaved and amazingly enough, their nice white jerseys stayed white- not an easy feat for boys of their age. While Isha cared for the children, there was another woman who cooks for the children and cleans.

We were welcomed to spend a night at the orphanage for the full experience. Unlike many places we visited, the home was equipped with electricity and running water which will help the children stay healthy. the way they cared for us is certainly a reflection of how they cared for the children, and they are doing an amazing job! A Child for All is providing the children with the a nourishing environment needed to allow them to learn and thrive.

Medical Visit

Thanks to you and your continued support, we are proud to announce that our orphanage in Mali is now open. Indeed, as of the begining of Jun 2010, ACFA-Mali is functional. This would have not happened without all of your support. You believed in our cause, and we are proud of you being part of our team. This success is your success. Now that we have opened doors, we are able to "Bring Hope to Malian Orphans". The road ahead will not be without challenges, but with you on our side, we are up for all the challenges. ACFA-Mali Construction Completed on Time

Week One

CEO has returned from Mali, where she oversaw the renovation efforts of ACFA-Mali. Renovations were completed on 06 Mar 2010. Additionally, she and ACFA representative in Mali, Zoumana Bagayoko, interviewed prospective staff members, and refined the operating budget. Please review the before and after pictures to see how far we have come thanks to your generous donations. Additionally, we have exiting news for you, this Tuesday is a big day for Malian Orphans: "BONUS DAY this coming Tuesday, March 16, GlobalGiving will match all donations at 30%, up to $1,000 per donor per project... There will also be additional prizes of $1,000 each for the project that earns the most money that day and the project that attracts the most individual donors...The match will be valid between 12:00 a.m. ET / GMT-5 and 11:59 pm ET / GMT-4. ACFA MALI UNDERGOING CONSTRUCTION

Renovation Week 1

Thank you all for your support. We are pleased to report that renovations are undergoing for ACFA-Mali in Bamako. On the ground, with the invaluable help of volunteers such as Kalifa Traore, Kadiatou Konate, Tahirou Diarra and many others, our CEO is personally overseeing the renovation's efforts. Work is scheduled to be completed by 07 Mar 2010. Good news: 16 Mar is Bonus Matching Day at Globalgiving. All donations up to $1,000 per person will be matched by a factor of 30%. Please, spread the word, let your friends, family, neighbords, and colleagues know about our project, and mark your calendar to support us on 16 Mar 2010.
