To save cost, energy and improve environment schools need woodlots. School Tree nurseries will also provide seedlings for community. The one year project will cost $ 4332 benefit 6 schools.
While most Kenyan schools especially in arid areas have lunch feeding programs and depend on wood for fuel , the cost of wood is high and traders who sell to schools cause serious environmental degradation in harvesting wood. The project will enable 6 schools with 7,500 students to produce their own wood fuel sustainably, at low cost and without harming the environment. Students will gain hands-on experience in environmental conservation making them future defenders of environment
Source seeds and working tools; establish tree nurseries and arboreta in 6 schools; planting 12,000 seedlings in schools by students, teachers and parents; plant 7,500 seedlings in homesteads, public places and riverbanks by schools and community.
Better school and community environment; youth become defenders of environment; initiative will be replaced in other schools and communities; Income generation from surplus seedlings for schools
