Every day atleast 50 elders are abandoned in the streets of Chennai,India.Our 100 bed Palliative Care Home involved in rescuing the dying,disabled elderly destitute to find happiness and dignity back.
In 2001, one third of the elders were living below the poverty line and one third just above it, i.e. 60 % of older persons are in a vulnerable situation without adequate food, clothing, medical treatment and shelter. Elders become destitute with various causes like Elder Abuse, elders thrown out of house due to financial matters etc. The two rescue Ambulance vans will be used by the rescue team to rescue atleast 200 hundred elders in a year from the streets of Chennai, India.
Rescue and rehabilitate the dying destitute from streets, provide them family care, provide the rehabilitated destitute with medical care, provide them psychiatric care to raise their psychological standards, advocate and sensitize the society.
The 10 yrs experience of serving the elderly destitute made a great impact in the society both to care the parents in the family and care the needy senior citizens. 96% of the beneficieries earned their dignity back and became helpers to others.
