Oxfam Trust reaches out to girls from poor communities in Uttar Pradesh who do not have access to schools due to poverty & discrimination, thereby helping them to get good quality basic education.
Illiteracy is a major problem in Uttar Pradesh with little over half the population (57%) being able to read and write. The educational status of girls from Dalit & Muslim communities, who are at the lowest rung of the socio economic strata, is worst in the rural areas. Most of them cannot afford basic school education due to poverty & discrimination. The project seeks to ensure quality primary education to girls with emphasis on those belonging to Dalit & Muslim communities.
Running 4 Schools & providing support to 60 Government Schools will ensure quality education to 600 poor girls. Gudia, a 5th grade student says- “I very much enjoy coming to school. I dream to be a doctor and serve the poor in my village".
The Project will directly help 600 poor girls get quality education. It will help a new generation of poor dalit & Muslim girls to break the cycle of illiteracy & poverty by providing accessible and quality education without any discrimination.
