Over 1000 slum dwellers in Nairobi will have improved sanitation & water access by creation of a 3-storey ablution block designed to convert human waste into biogas, liquid fertiliser.
In Lunga Lunga slums fewer than 5% of 15,000 people are served by toilets. The few available are shared by all hence the constant use of open spaces especially along rivers for human waste disposal while some use 'flying toilets' in the village. Water is also very expensive to buy and most vendors profiteer unfairly. This project will change lives of more than 1,000 people daily. It will create economic opportunities & recreational facilities, also will help protect & preserve the environment.
By building self-sustaining project, we create water supply outlets, provide toilet & bathroom facilities, ensure gas generation for cooking, community space, produce fertiliser hence creating various economic opportunities & protect environment
1000 people daily will have access to proper sanitation and water leading to improved levels of hygiene & health in the slum. There will be reduced presence of 'flying toilets' & open defecation. 20 new jobs & various economic ventures will emerge.
