In Somalia, 55% of land mine victims are children aged 5 and 15 years old(UNDP). in this project, DAN offers physiotherapy services to prevent, correct or reduce the severity of children’s disabily.
This project will provide mobility aid support to 500 children with disabilities in Somaliland. Children in somalia are the innocent victims in conflicts and often have to suffer the consequences for the rest of their lives. As a result of gunshots, shrapnel of rockets, land mines and other remnants of war, many children have become disabled. To this numbers adds children due to lack of adequate health care services and poverty are affected by disabling diseases such as polio, meningitis.
-Provision of physiotherapy services and orthopedic appliances to 500 children with disabilities - Provision of referral to orthopedic surgeons and medical doctors for disabled children. - Education of parents -Training of nurses and midwives
As a result of the project 500 children with disabilities and their families will benefit in the long term as a result of the treatment, referral system that will be established, the improved training of rehabilitation staff and medical staff.
