Application to Water of Life

Dear Donors: KWENCH is still struggling to raise the money to get construction started on this project. We have now applied to the "Water of Life" program, a shared initiative of Diageo Africa and the East African Breweries Ltd. Foundation. This program provides up to 5,000,000 Kenyan Shillings for projects that will help East African countries meet the Millennium Development Goals for water and sanitation. The project we submitted is the construction of one biodigester ablution block with a slum light. The biodigester ablution block delivers human wastes from toilets to an oxygen free biodigester, where it ferments to produce methane. The methane will then be fed into a generator that will power a slum light - a very bright light on a tall stand that will illuminate a large area around the ablution block so that the ablution block will be safe for use at night - especially for women. The total budget is over Ksh 5,000,000 but we're hoping that KenGen, the national electricity generating company, will donate the methane generator and slum light. Happy New Year and thanks again for your support.

We still don't have enough money to begin implementation of this project, but we continue to approach potential donors with large grant requests. Meanwhile, one of our local partners, the Community Care Development Organization (CCDO), has offered to bring our proposal to the 12 Rotary Clubs in Nairobi.

Your support is greatly appreciated.
