2011 June Update

The "Clean Water to Children's Hospital Project" will commence once 50% of project funding has been raised -- until that time, it remains in the planning phase. A Child's Right stands ready to install the water purification systems just as soon as half the funds have been raised for this project.

This project is designed to assure safe drinking water in five children's hospitals. Water purification systems will be installed (and monitored for quality for the first ten years) for $25,000 ($5,000 per hospital).

Feb 2011 update

While our Clean Water for Orphans Project in China is hitting the halfway mark, we have some of our attention on schools/clinics for disabled children. Through a recent grant for Guangdong Province, we are undertaking our first pilot project targeting severely disabled children in need of clean water.

The Clean Water to Children's Hospital Project continues in the planning phase. Upon reaching 50% of our funding goal we will undertake our first round of installations and provide photo, video, GPS, and testimonials from children and staff at the hospitals upon completion. The additional hospitals will be served upon reaching 100% of our goal.

October 2010 update

We continue to work throughout all 31 provinces and municipalities in China on our Clean Water for Orphans Project. We are now more than 1/3rd of the way toward completing our goal of providing more than 600 orphanages clean and safe water.

As mentioned in our last report, the hospital project through Global Giving is intended to be our springboard in to large scale operations in hospitals and clinics serving vulnerable children throughout China. We are committed to the project and look forward to sharing quality updates with our donors once the work pushes forward.

May 2010 Update

Updates on uncompleted projects are difficult, especially when only 15% funded. Our goal is to provide substantive updates to all our donors every step of the way. And this portal offers a terrific opportunity to do just that. However, as with any project we undertake, we cannot offer much by way of photos, testimonials, installation progress or work reports until we have achieved a sufficient level of funding to begin the actual work.

We continue to work in areas of China that no other NGO has worked before, or will for years to come. This year alone we will oversee more than 200 installations of clean water systems in orphanages in Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangxi, and Shandong provinces as well as Chonqing municipality.

The hospital project through Global Giving is intended to be our springboard in to large scale operations in hospitals in clinics serving vulnerable children throughout China. We are committed to the project and look forward to sharing quality updates with our donors once the work pushes forward.

January 2010 update

We are now a tenth of the way toward completing our goal of raising $25,000 for this project!

In the months since the project was introduced to GlobalGiving and now, we have completed more than 150 similar installations in orphanages in 8 provinces in Western China, and have begun site inspections for similar installations in several dozen migrant schools in Beijing and Shanghai.

We continue to work with the Ministry of Civil Affairs and Ministry of Health to find the best hospitals for this project. We have thus far located more than 20 hospitals which would be perfect sites for our water systems. Once we reach halfway toward the end goal we can begin implementing the project accordingly.

Clean Water in Hospitals update

Apologies for any confusion with the previous post, which was intended to give a general overview of our current progress in China.

Presently, A Child's Right is working with the China Association of Social Workers, a sub-branch of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, to locate appropriate sites for our Clean Water for Hospitals project with Global Giving.

After compilation of at least 10 sites, we work with our China staff and the national government to test the water, inspect the sites, work with their administration and with the local government to ensure these sites are 1) in need of clean water 2) provide pediatric care for children as their primary mission 3) will provide the water free of charge to the children under their care and 4) have the necessary infrastructural items needed to effectively run our water systems (water pressure and electricity).

Our primary operations in China presently consist of more than 150 clean water installations per year in China’s orphanages. Late 2009 and early 2010 will see us expanding our reach to assist both hospitals and poor schools through provision sof clean and safe water. We have worked in the largest pediatric hospitals in both Nepal and Cambodia, but the Global Giving project will be our first in to large hospitals in China. We look forward to this partnership and any questions from potential supporters.

Clean Water for Children's Hospitals in China

As a natural extension of ACR's Clean Water for Children's Hospitals in China, we are developing the scope of this project to include schools for special needs children, particularly those with mental or physical medical issues.

"Special needs" are often defined by what a child CAN'T do, so part of the work of these schools is to foster understanding of what these children CAN do - that mentally handicapped children are young people of self-respect and value, who are in turn due respect, love and acceptance.

Special needs children - particularly those with medical issues - are as vulnerable to water-related illnesses and serious conditions as children admitted to hospitals, and with futures that are every bit as uncertain. For now, ACR's choice with these particular children is to focus on how we can help in the present. Please join us in bringing clean, safe drinking water to aid the healthy development of special needs children in China.
