The project is called Maji Mashinani (Water for the Grassroots) and officially started in April 2009. The first quarter of the project has been spent assessing credit opportunities in the community, training already formed savings groups to prepare to take out loans for water connections, and mobilizing the community to form new groups. The next three months of the project will be an exciting time as the first loans will be disbursed through the savings groups and household will be able to have water on their property for the first time. The household taps will reduce both the long-term cost of water and the time women and girls spend daily in collecting water from community taps.
