This project empowers 5 schools to provide free education, daily meals, & grief support to their students who are orphaned by the HIV/AIDS related death of their parents.
Over 3 million children in South Africa have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS or are otherwise vulnerable due to personal family tragedy, etc. Routinely, these children are subject to neglect & marginalization within their communities. These factors and others adversely affect their ability to enroll, remain, or perform in school. The orphaned or vulnerable children that do show up to school often are so hungry or emotionally distraught that they can't concentrate on learning or function socially.
This project provides Orphaned & Vulnerable children within 5 schools in the poorest provinces of South Africa with the means to go to & stay in school, daily meals, uniforms, transport, school supplies, & grief counseling when needed.
1 in 7 South Africans has HIV/AIDS. Stigma causes orphaned children to avoid seeking help for fear of being labeled as HIV carriers. 1/2 of most school's students are orphans & 70% fail. Schools are pivotal to improving life's fate for these children
