While many organizations provide scholarships for girls in Africa, Our Girls’ Powerhouse program is one of the only programs in Kenya providing educational opportunities for girls beyond academics.
In western Kenya, 41% of eligible girls are enrolled in school. 53% of those girls complete primary school. 51% of those girls enter secondary school and only 57% of those girls graduate. The math is complicated, but the bottom line is that only a small percentage of girls in Western Kenya are receiving an education that enables them to create a better life for themselves.
*Residential camps where girls develop and practice important life skills such as decision making, leadership, problem solving and team building *Computer and technology training *Providing schools with math and science resources
Studies indicate that an extra year of schooling beyond the average boosts girls’ eventual wages by 10-20%.Not only will the girls themselves benefit from the advantages of education, the community and nation also reap the benefits.
