In rural areas with little or no public transport, HIV/AIDS patients need assistance to get to the Clinic to receive their treatment. This transport ensures low default rates for patients.
We are addressing the problem of HIV and AIDS, in five rural communities in Southern Mpumalanga, South Africa. Our solution offers home based care, orphan care - including food parcels, school uniforms and schools fees, nutrition in the form of vegetable gardening, anti-retroviral therapy, Prevention of mother to child transmission, voluntary counselling and testing, post-exposure prophylaxis, general care for HIV and AIDS patients, and Skills training and development.
Our Clinic is the only site initiating anti-retroviral therapy in the area. We have a very low default rate from our patients due to the fact that we provide transport for them to attend the clinic. Patients attend the clinic weekly.
This project provides anti-retroviral medication to approx 528 adults and children, a number which is growing by approx 20 patients per month. This ensures that people living with HIV and AIDS have a better quality of life, and an increased life span
