Challenge

In Kiwafu and Nakiwogo Primary Schools retention of pupils is affected by inadequate hygiene and sanitation facilities. The latrine: pupil ratio for Kiwafu Primary School is at 1:153. At Nakiwogo Primary School the latrine: pupil ratio is 1:161. This has led to dirty latrines, diseases, long queues, diseases and poor time management. There is lack of adequate water supplies to wash hands after using the latrine/ toilet and before eating food.

Solution

Informing local leaders about the project School hygiene sensitization sessions Painting 2 sanitation and hygiene on school walls Setting up 2 handwashing tanks Constructing 2 gender segregated Ventilated Improved pit latrines with 4 rooms

Long-Term Impact

Improved time management Improved students knowledge, attitudes and practice towards hygiene, retention of pupils and school performance, students health and saving income by their parents. The pupils will become change agents in their families.
