"Soccer for Peace" is a community generating experience that is using soccer's pedagogical capacities to provide new life opportunities for disadvantaged children living in Barranquilla, Colombia.
La Paz is considered to be one of the most unsafe and violent neighborhoods in Colombia. Children have excessive free time and lack appropriate spaces and activities to use it wisely. As a result of being brought-up in these harsh living conditions children end up roaming the streets and joining gangs. FCC is transforming the lives of 300 youth by providing them with an innovative soccer program to build conflict resolution skills and develop social capital in the community.
Children meet twice a week to play using the “Soccer for Peace” methodology which promotes and teaches social values such as: tolerance, respect, solidarity and honesty centered around gender inclusion for girls.
The project will initially improve the living conditions of 300 children who attend workshops on life building skills, receive a nutritious meal and learn peace coexisting values while playing soccer using the Soccer for Peace Methodology.
