Great news for Minaflores!

The community of Minaflores will soon have light. A hotel in Edinburgh, Ten Hill Place, has agreed to fund this micro-hydro project in Colombia. Thanks to the efforts of Mercy Corps, the hotel will launch a campaign to seek support from their guests and then sponsor the balance of the project.

The hotel's sponsorship will be geared mostly towards the equipment costs of the project, so the donations raised through GlobalGiving will support the community organizing aspect of the project. Project organizers will train the community members in running the energy system and help them organize to administer it. A small tariff for energy service will allow the community to maintain the service long into the future.

Thanks to everyone who has donated to this project. Your donations helped get this project off the ground and will now help it be sustainable.

Paez / Nasa

Dear all,

We are still seeking help for this important project, which will be lead by a local Colombian NGO with extensive experience in small-scale renewable energy, APROTEC. The project will benefit a Paez/Nasa community which is threatened by the ongoing war in Colombia. To learn more about the Paez/Nasa, see this link:
