6,000 people in this impoverished area have gained access to clean water, latrines, and/or hygiene education. WaterPartners wants to expand this success by extending the program to nearby villages.
Approximately 56,365 households with 267,003 people inhabit the area. People are mostly poor even by Bangladeshi standards – household income is below the national average of $150/month. High prevalence of water-borne disease causes vulnerability to frequent ailments year-round.
This three-year project will benefit 5,550 people by providing: *45 new water points. *Repairs or re-construction of 111 existing water points. *Sanitary facilities at key locations. *Community-organizing and hygiene education.
Accessible, clean water allows women and children time for other tasks such as attending school or planting a vegetable garden. Project acts as a catalyst for other community-driven projects.
