More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesIn rural areas of Africa, a small amount of money to pay for school uniforms, school supplies, and exam fees often makes all the difference between a child staying in school or dropping out. In rural communities, Camfed's Safety Net Fund helps children who are orphaned, or from child-headed households. This project enables schools in the Kilosa district of rural Tanzania to meet the pressing needs of 500 children at risk of dropping out, providing security and hope. ActivitiesSafety Net grants empower primary and secondary schools to address the neediest children's difficult circumstances as they arise - often for as little as $10-20 per child - thus helping more children stay in school and continue their education. Latest Update from the FieldCamfed Tanzania Safety Net Fund UpdateBy Tanya Johnston - Development Assistant, August 07, 2008 06:34 PM
The Camfed Safety Net Fund is directly reducing the risk to vulnerable children in rural areas of Tanzania of dropping out of school. With the help of teacher mentors trained by Camfed, schools have identified the children in their communities most in need, and the items they require to continue with their studies. Across Camfed's partner schools in Tanzania, including in the Kilosa District targeted by this project, children have been provided with stationery, school uniforms, sanitary protection, payment of exam fees, food and other necessities to keep them attending and achieving at school.
