Mission

Boxgirls International gives girls and young women living in distressed urban areas conflict resolution and self protection skills to be confident and effective leaders in their communities. Boxgirls uses running and amateur boxing activities to help the girls strengthen their bodies and learn to work effectively to solve problems in multicultural groups. The girls' passion for sport is used to teach deescalation techniques, negotiation, presentation and intercultural communication skills.

Programs

We offere running, self defence and amateur boxing training. We also offer international coach dvelopment course and conflict resolution.

Personnel Overview

Heather Cameron - Executive Director Boxgirls International
Heather started crosscountry running as a child.She runs regularly now and since 2001 leads a running, boxing and self defense club for girls in a disadvantaged area of downtown Berlin. She has international boxing trainer and referree licenses and coaching credentials from Canada and Germany. She teaches on sport and social inclusion at the Free University of Berlin

Kadessa Kiiru - Boxgirls Manager Nairobi
Kadessa grew up in Naibi Eastlands. She graduated from high school and is now working as a volunteer Project Manager for Boxgirls Nairobi and as a youth officer fro SOS Children's villages in Buru Buru. She is committed to a career in community development. Alongside boxing, Kadessa enjoys Taekwon-do. She aslo participates in Rotary Internationals' Rotaract programs.

Priest - Boxing Trainer
Alfred "Priest" Anjere is the boxing trainer for Boxgirls Nairobi. He has coached many professional Kenyan boxers including Congestina Ochieng and Judy Mbury - both ranked in the top ten in the world.. Priest is famous in Kenya as a Reggae musician and is much loved by the children of the estates in Kenya. He graduated high school with a focuis on English and Swahili literature.
