More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesIDEX is working with our local grantees in Bangladesh to provide emergency relief. Cyclone Sidr destroyed homes and devastated crops. Some 500,000 homes have been destroyed, and 845,000 households have been affected, according to the British Red Cross. Survivors are now struggling for basic necessities like shelter, rice, medicine and clean water. Families in this region survive on their crops and with these gone they are fast running out of food, and have no access to clean, potable water. ActivitiesIDEX will use the funds to buy rice, pulses (beans and peas) and water purification tablets to provide emergency food, salt, saline and clean water to 6000 families (30,000 people). Each person will receive two meals per day for five days. Cyclone floodwaters submerged more than fifty percent of the country under water in 2007. The high amount of rain in Bangladesh caused sudden over flow of water across all rivers, and specifically, paddy lands. Transport among cities also stopped in many part of the country.
