The 500watt turbine at the top of the wind-blown hill now charges the batteries that supply light to the school’s classrooms, DVD player, and new computer. Smaller turbines bring electricity directly to homes.</p> <p>Everyone I met in Alumbre seemed genuinely happy with their new lights. The project has been funded. Thanks to the generous contributions of donors through Global Giving and a large grant from a private institution, the wind turbines are now fully funded and ready to be implemented.
