Fifteen secondary students in Belize's poorest districts will earn multiple-year scholarships in exchange for serving his/her local community. They'll develop professional skills and service values.
An IFOB 'service' scholarship will benefit the student directly with multiple-year funding that covers tuition, books and uniform expenses in several needy districts in Belize. This project, which goes beyond the typical academic scholarship, incorporates a community service element where the student will benefit by gaining valuable professional experience while learning the value of service. In exchange, the community will benefit from the voluntary service of a young member of its community.
IFOB will develop the service scholarship program along side school principals in Belize. Each program will be catered specifically to the student's interest (e.g biology) and will facilitate a relationship with the professional community.
The IFOB Service Scholarship program will educate 15 students in Belize, facilitate valuable professional experience, and teach the value of community service. The community will also benefit from the student's service and community commitment.
