VVAF's iMMAP group is supporting the United Nations in getting food to thousands of persons affected by the drought in the Horn of Africa and to 4 million Internally Displaced Persons in south Sudan.
In the Horn of Africa (i.e., Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia), a severe drought has ensued for years and drastically affected food sources for local people. Southern Sudan is emerging from a civil war that has devastated the area, resulting in 350,000 Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries and 4 million people who are displaced within Sudan. iMMAP’s leading-edge information management and GIS services are supporting UN relief agencies in getting aid to where it is needed most.
In the Horn, iMMAP is collecting and analyzing field level status reports and establishing guidelines for their use, and also updating relief maps. In Sudan, road surveying and mapping services are underway to assure emergency transport of supplies.
iMMAP’s support in Juba, Sudan will advance the analysis and response to food security issues throughout ALL of Sudan by improving the data analysis methods being used and by providing a uniform platform of tools and procedures.
