To assist the Ethiopian government by assigning American volunteer teachers to train primary school teachers through the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH).
IFESH American volunteer teachers in Ethiopia play an important role in improving the quality of primary education. Volunteers have supported more than 49,911 teachers and students in 39 teacher-training colleges and universities. Hundreds of thousands of primary school students in Ethiopia have benefited by having better trained and more effective primary school teachers. Support to this program will make a significant impact on the quality of primary education in Ethiopia.
The program supports U.S. volunteers who work in teachers’ colleges and contribute to the quality of teaching and learning. It promotes learner-centered methodologies, improves English-language instruction and promotes education for girls.
The quality of education for students is closely related to the quality of teacher education. Through this program, students are motivated to stay in school, positively impacting the rest of their lives.
