By Fr. Centurio Olaboro - Director / UMOP, December 16, 2008 05:50 PM

We wish to thank you our partners at Global giving through the River Fund for the support to the Orphans and especially in the computer project in Ma’s Center

We are using 2 wireless phones to provide internet services to 756 students of these 435 are girls and what a change this service has caused in their academic performance; especially in a country with few text books.

1. All our girls can now use computers

2. The acquisition of the computers has opened a new avenue for our girls to pursue courses which until then where only taken by like degree International and Communication Technology.

3. Every student is now getting an e-mail address to easy communication with friends around the world.

4. Four of Our girls are having jobs as secretaries in offices in the town and Industries.

Field Update

By Jaya Canterbury-Counts - Executive Director, March 26, 2008 06:19 PM

We now have fourteen computers in the library that are being shared by 768 children. Two of the computers are connected to the net.
Our local women's groups and advocates also access these few computers. Often the net is down.
While we know this is not enough ... it is progress. Many many thanks to all of you who have so generously donated to this project. Together we are making a difference!

Update

By Jaya Canterbury-Counts, M.Ed. - Executive Director, The River Fund, May 10, 2007 05:13 PM

The beneficiaries are the students at Great Aubrey, a secondary school founded for AIDS orphans. Presently we have six computers for 590 secondary school students. We still need many more computers to make this a viable project.
