Nyaka student in class

Nyaka students do not take their education for granted. Receiving an education in rural Uganda is rare enough as is; receiving free, high-quality education is even rarer, and the students make sure to take full advantage of this opportunity. The students approach their education with curiosity, focus, and pride that is evident from the work that they do, and the test scores they receive. Despite the struggles they face, they never give up hope. Their big dreams motivate them to work hard, as they understand that a good education is key to improving their lives, their families, and their communities. This photograph was taken by Thorbjoern Chakravarty, a recent visitor to Uganda. During his time there, he visited the different Nyaka projects, such as Nyaka school and the Blue Lupin Community Library, that contribute to Nyaka's holistic mission. He documented these projects at work, and the time he spent there has led him to conclude that "change can happen not only in cities, but also in the most rural parts of Uganda."
