Against Cultural Odds Women Start Cooperative

Dressed in celebratory green saris with red blouses, 75 women return from Annual Cooperative Day in Kathmandu in an open-backed Lorrie, standing and sitting on their 2-hour ride. A significant culture change is occurring as these women have formed a coop to sell their harvest directly rather than go through middlemen. Starting with a small micro grant 4 years ago there is now a good-sized two-story building and 400 members of the Women’s Agricultural Cooperative.
