With the support of Relief International and the Tech Museum Awards,
the GlobalGiving community now
has a unique opportunity to help the people of Darfur restore their
lives. More than 1.6 million people have been displaced,
and an estimated 300,000 Sudanese have died since the systematic
slaughter, rape, starvation and displacement began
in 2003. Through GlobalGiving, you can support the following relief and
rebuilding
projects in Sudan:
Practical Protection for Women
in Darfur, Sudan - This project provides fuel-efficient stoves to
Darfurian women,
lowering the risk of sexual and gender-based violence by reducing
dependence on high-risk excursions for firewood.
- A contribution of $12 could train three Sudanese women to use
fuel-efficient camp stoves.
Livestock Support Program for
Sudanese Families - This project will save vulnerable livestock in
Darfur, thereby
improving the population's economic standing and food security.
- For as little as $10, provide care and food for a donkey, which
is a critical source of income for families
in Darfur.
Wiring
the Global Village IT in a Developing World -
In war-torn areas such as the Sudan, NetHope identifies field IT
hardware and software requirements,
trains staff, and provides simple, long-term solutions to improve
regional communications.
- "NetHope pools the expertise of NGOs to reach the challenged
areas of the world,
making it faster and more effective to deliver aid," Edward
Happ (NetHope Chair and Chief Technology Officer for Save
the Children).
Let the people of Darfur know that you are paying attention.
