Zara moved to France to be with her boyfriend in July 2014. She met him while studying abroad in Lyon in 2013. After a few months Zara's boyfriend started becoming more and more controlling. Last month, he beat her. When she went to call the police, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She called the crisis line and we have Zara hidden safely. We need $800 to get Zara safely home, to hopefully, be with her parents for Christmas.
Many young Americans meet partners while studying abroad, then return to the foreign country when they graduate college. Most of the time it is an exciting, wonderful experience. But when abuse starts, it can turn a fairy tale into a nightmare. Zara was in fear of her life when she contacted us. We have been able to get her away from the violence but now we need to get her back home to her parents.
Zara will be able to return home to her parents, hopefully in time for Christmas. She will have a chance to be safe and heal with her mom and dad and restart her life again in the USA.
Each year we provide 500 battered American women, many with children, with information and services necessary to enable them to live their lives without violence. Every year we provide danger to safety relocation back home to the USA to dozens of victims.
