Our Boys & Girls Clubs Club provides kids whose basic needs are not being met. Services include showers, haircuts, clothes washing, new clothes, and other basic toiletry needs. By having these basic needs met, youth feel more confident in themselves and are more ready to engage in the educational process at both school and at the Boys & Girls Club.
Because of home situations, some of our youth are in need of basic hygiene services. A hot shower and clean clothes can help a youth to fit in with their peers and be ready to undertake other educational and recreational opportunities the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oshkosh provide. In addition, youth feel more comfortable at school with their new, clean clothes and improved appearance. This helps them to concentrate more on the academic success.
22 youth receive full services including showers, clothes washing, and new clothes. 240 youth will receive some sort of basic care including new clothes, haircuts, toiletries, and shoes.
Bullying, teasing, and negative behavior can ensue when youth are singled out for being smelly or their clothes are torn or not washed washed. We help provide toiletries, haircuts, shoes, clothes, and whatever else we can to help a child feel normal so they can have fun at our Club and more easily engage in the educational activities at the Club and at school.
