Violins and Cellos for Vietnamese Students

A microproject by Rock-Paper-Scissors Children's Fund
Violins and Cellos for Vietnamese Students

Summary

Tuan's small music school opened last year in Cam Ranh, Vietnam with only 10 violins and 1 cello. The students were thrilled to receive their first instruments. Over the year many more local students have been hearing about the school and are waiting to join. This program has given these young Vietnamese students an instrument, free lessons, and the opportunity to play together in a string ensemble. Tuan would like to reach more students by purchasing 10 more violins and 2 cellos.

Challenge

We cannot expand the music school and reach more students without additional instruments. At this time, our small school only has a few instruments and they are of all different sizes. Students living in this rural area of Vietnam cannot afford musical instruments or instruction. Although many of these children do go to school, music programs are not available.

Solution

Additional instruments will provide more underprivileged Vietnamese youth the opportunity to join classes and play in a larger string ensemble.

Long-Term Impact

By growing this musical community, we hope to help strengthen the surrounding community as well. Learning how to play an instrument boosts self-esteem, teaches kids how to work in a group, and strategically solve problems; all which can be used in future life experience.
