This project will provide art and enriching activities for 30 children living at the Hands Together to Defend the Children Orphanage in Port au Prince. The kids in the orphanage's care lost everything and were living on the streets before they arrived at the orphanage. Today, thanks to donors worldwide, the kids' physical needs are met, but we also want them to enjoy being kids! Your donations will fund enriching activities like English, clases, art classes, and field trips.
The kids at HTDC had their lives up-ended by the earthquake. Now, four years later, their basic needs are met, but all survivors -especially children - also need help coping with the long-term psychological effects of disaster. Without help coping with the disaster's long-term mental health effects, children risk long-term psychological harm.
This project will fund fun, enriching activities that give kids the space they need to express how they feel, release stress and simply be kids! Supported by professional teachers and volunteers, kids will partake in art classes, fun activities and field trips to museums, parks, and sites of cultural importance. These projects both give children an outlet for stress and an understanding of their place in Haitian history.
Time to be kids is important for the long-term mental health of Port au Prince's children. These activities also contribute to a full, rounded education for the kids to helping them become tomorrow's leaders.
